George Clement Radzak, 87, of Duluth, died Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born March 11, 1932 in Harvey, Illinois to Clement and Polly Radzak. George moved to Duluth where he attended Duluth Denfeld High School and attended UMD. George worked for the City of Duluth in the Engineering Department as the Office Engineer.
George was an Lt. Col Air Fighter Pilot in the 148th Duluth Air Guard for 25 years and also was a recruiter for the Air Force Academy.
George married the love of his life Karen Ida Backlund on September 8, 1956. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church. George had many talents which included making stained glass lamps, gardening, spending summers at the cabin with family and friends.
George is survived by his wife of 63 years, Karen, children, Stephen (Debra) Radzak of Mankato MN, Susan (Roger) Volkmann, Wenatchee WA, James Radzak, Wenatchee, WA. Grandchildren, Nicole, Logan, Annika, Melody, Jessica and Rebecca and five great grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Carol.
VISITATION: Thursday, January 16th from 5-7 PM at Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation continues Friday, January 17th from 10-11 AM, followed at 11 AM by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Catholic church. Burial will be at Polish Catholic Cemetery.
