Elizabeth “Betty Lou” (Schneider) Yagoda, 84, of Duluth, died Wednesday May 15, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospice, with her family by her side. Betty was born December 29, 1934 in Duluth to Robert and Myrtle Schneider. She graduated from Cathedral High School. She married Sylvester “Syl” Yagoda in Duluth on February 19, 1955. Betty worked as a teacher’s aide for the Duluth Public Schools at Central, Denfeld and the Adult Learning Center. She was a member of St. Benedict’s Church; Women’s Faith in Motion, The Red Hatters; volunteered at the Damiano Center; she enjoyed Bocce Ball, Volleyball, Cribbage and most of all spending time with her family and friends. She was a tireless advocate for the Catholic Faith especially to those she mothered.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Myrtle and stepmother Julie; siblings, James Schneider, Deloris (George) Schutak, Bonnie (Jack) Lund and daughter-in-law Linda Yagoda.
Betty is survived by her husband, Sylvester “Syl”; children, Scott Yagoda, Steven (Kathe) Yagoda and Beth Ann (Paul) Yagoda Sever; grandchildren, Alex and Nick Yagoda, Vanessa (Cody) Zack and their children, Rosalind, Augustus and Elizabeth, Kaitlin Yagoda, William and Andrew Sever and Betty’s brother, R. Gregory (Charlene) Schneider, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was known to always have a smile on her face. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Tuesday May 21st at St. Benedict’s Church, 1419 St. Benedicts St., Duluth, MN from 5-7p with Wake Prayers at 6:30pm. Visitation will continue Wednesday at St. Benedicts beginning at 10am with Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
