David Francis Pufahl, 72, of Duluth, MN (formally of Montello, WI) went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 4th, 2019 surrounded by his children.
David was raised in Montello, WI and graduated from Montello High School in 1964. He went on to earn a bachelors degree in economics and political science from the University of Wisconsin Steven Point in 1968. In the fall of 1968, he was called to serve his country and spent 22 months in the Army, eleven and half of those months he was stationed in Vietnam. Upon returning home he relocated to Duluth, Mn. In January of 1971 he started his 32-year career in the social security administration.
It was while he was working at the SSA in Duluth that he met his wife Joanne. They shared 25 years of marriage and their union produced his three children. When his marriage ended, he had the honor to spend the next 14 years with Wendy Johnson. But it was the last seven years that were truly special for he had met his “partner” and love Peggy Sullivan. They were inseparable right up until the end.
David liked to keep active through out his life. He coached youth hockey at Portman in the late 1980s/early 1990s. He never missed one of his children’s or grandchildren’s school or sporting events. He became involved in martial arts and earned his first-degree black belt in August of 2001. He enjoyed doing odd jobs with his “brother he never had” Clarence Douville. When he did sit still it was usually to watch sports, especially his beloved Boston Red Sox.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Adele Pufahl; nephews Erhijiguen Okoh and Travis Daniels; grandchildren William David Michael Peterson and baby Pufahl.
David is survived by his three children, Lee (Chera) Pufahl, grandsons Asher and Zander; Jodi (Jesse) Peterson, grand children Jolynn, Isaac, and Samual; Thomas Pufahl; sister Linda (Dennis) Daniels; his second family, The whole Geving clan; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ecumen Lakeshore and Essentia Health St. Mary’s 9W for all of the loving care you provided for David during his final days.
